Two new MPs have signed EDM 22 this week, Tessa Munt MP for Wells and Mike Wood MP for Batley and Spen. These MPs are adding their weight to the urgent call for up-to-date medical evidence to be heard in scientific hearings that will be presented through the platform of properly moderated, public scientific debates, with conditions endorsed by Britain’s foremost human rights defence barrister Michael Mansfield QC.
EDM 22 calls for evidence to be heard which entirely invalidates the continued funding of laboratory animal models, that still continue to receive the lion’s share of research funding – despite the fact that current science now proves animals are falsely claimed able to ‘predict’ the responses of human patients. Recognizing this evidence would mean an immediate abandonment of such experiments, on human medical and scientific grounds. This would then entirely free medical research from the damaging grip of veterinary principles, in which it still finds itself held today.
The statistics highlighted in Parliamentary EDM 22 are reflected by the wider scientific community, including the British Medical Journal, read more.
